A family information platform
Thaw vs Trustworthy
Families with an advisor, an estate plan and a lot of important documents, who want one place their household and their professionals can see.
Trustworthy has organized family information since 2020 and calls itself the Family Operating System. In 2026 it added Gmail sync, so documents are pulled from the inbox rather than uploaded, plus AI extraction, a household graph and plain-English answers. It is built for families with advisors and priced that way. Thaw reads paper for what it means and what it obliges you to do, costs less for a household, and holds a small business beside the family. Details are from Trustworthy's public pages as of September 2026.
Side by side
| Thaw | Trustworthy | |
|---|---|---|
| How paper gets in | Email-in address per family or business, scanner-to-email, browser upload, folder import, Evernote and paperless-ngx imports. Dropbox and Drive folder watch next. | Upload, ID scanning in the mobile app, and a Gmail connection that watches the whole inbox for documents. Forwarding addresses on the top plan. |
| What it understands | Every document is read once: category, type, title, facts with roles, the people & things it concerns, every date. Uncertain reads are flagged, never queued. | Autopilot extraction into a fixed household schema (IDs, insurance, estate, property, finances), connected into a household graph. Answers questions like "what expires this year?" on the Gold plan and up. |
| Dates and deadlines | Every renewal, expiry, due date and notice period becomes an item with what happens if missed and what to do, from the document itself. Resolved by the next document. | Reminders on expirations. No proposed solution; items do not close themselves when the renewal arrives. |
| What is missing | Knows what a person, vehicle, property, pet or business should have on file; lists what is missing, lapsed, expired or duplicated, worst first, with where to get it. | Guided setup shows the sections a family should fill in. No per-person or per-thing checkup driven by the documents. |
| Household and advisors | Members and roles per family or business. Advisor seats are planned for the public launch. | Collaborators with roles, view-only sharing, advisor access, legacy access, offline mobile mode, and a concierge on the top plan. |
| Business | A business beside the family in one account, with its own checkup and the CPA invited to it alone. | Household only; business owners are served through their advisors. |
| Security | Per-document keys wrapped by per-account keys wrapped by a KMS master key. Identifiers encrypted with a blind index and redacted from the search index. Hash-chained audit log. Crypto-shred on delete. | AES-256 at rest, multi-factor authentication, malware scanning on upload. No published key hierarchy. |
| Price | Free for the first 500 documents sorted; Personal $79 a year, Family $119, Business $239. | Free is one member and 2 GB. Silver $120 a year (10 GB), Gold $240 (100 GB, AI answers), Platinum $480 (unlimited, concierge). Half price for military and community heroes. |
Stay with Trustworthy if
- Your estate attorney or wealth manager already works inside it with you.
- You want a concierge to do the organizing.
- You need offline access on your phone today.
Move to Thaw if
- You want the paper read, not filed into sections you maintain.
- You want obligations with solutions and a checkup, not reminders.
- You run a business as well as a household.
- The price for a household stopped making sense.
Moving over
Download your folders from Trustworthy (folder export is in Account Settings) and drop the folder on the import page. Section names become hints. Manually entered facts without a document behind them will not carry over; Thaw builds facts from documents.
Point it at the pile and walk away.
Early access is open to a small group of households and owner-run businesses. Tell us a little about your paper and we will send an invitation.
