What Thaw made of one declarations page

The first real document through production was a one-page auto policy declarations sheet from a fictional carrier, forwarded to a family’s email-in address at 10:51 at night. Twenty-six seconds later it was filed. This is what came out, unedited except for the carrier name, which was already made up.

Facts

Eighteen of them, each with a role. The ones that matter later:

• Policy number, VIN and plate as identifiers. They are encrypted with a blind index, so the Library finds the document when you paste the policy number, and none of them appear in the search index or anything sent for embedding.
• Premium $1,240.00 and prior-term premium $1,051.00 as money.
• Term start, renewal date and payment due date as dates with roles.
• The agency’s phone and the claims line as plain text.

People and things

Five, created or matched on the spot: Peter Leonard (with the address from the page), the 2019 Honda Civic EX (year, make, model, VIN, plate), Northwind Mutual (claims phone), Barton Agency (phone), and the policy itself. The Civic now has a page. It shows the policy as current and, because Thaw knows what a vehicle should have on file, that the title and the registration are missing.

The thing we fixed

The prepared note on the first item went one sentence too far. After the premium comparison it added: “Worth asking the agent what drove the increase and whether raising the deductible or bundling would lower it.”

That is advice. It is probably good advice. It is not Thaw’s to give. The rule in the reader now reads: steps and prepared material state what the document says and what the person needs at hand; never recommend. Thaw tells you the premium went up 18% and gives you the agent’s number. What you say on the phone is yours.

Why show this
